FAQ

How is a postpartum doula different from a nanny or night nurse?

Unlike nannies, postpartum doulas educate and support the whole family—not just care for the baby. Night nurses focus on infant care overnight, while postpartum doulas may assist with newborn care but also nurture the parents’ recovery and adjustment. My main focus as your doula is nurture the mother, so she can better nurture the baby. Doing that sometimes means caring for the baby, where a nanny just cares for the baby.

When should I hire a postpartum doula?

It’s a good idea to book in your second or third trimester, as availability can fill up quickly. You can either add it on to birth support, or choose a package that has both, or just book postpartum support prenatally. However, I can also sometimes accommodate last-minute needs.

Support can range from a few days to several weeks or months, depending on your needs. Some families book a set number of visits; others schedule as-needed support.

Not at this time.

Yes! Postpartum doulas are trained to support families with multiples, helping with feeding, soothing, and creating systems that work for your unique family.

I can offer virtual sessions for feeding support, sleep tips, emotional check-ins, or guidance from a distance. Just reach out to see how this can work for you and pricing.

Yes! A postpartum doula provides non-clinical lactation support and feeding education tailored to your goals. If the need arises for clinical support I keep a network of professionals that are able to provide help.

While doulas don’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions, we offer emotional support and can refer you to trusted professionals if needed.
